Collecting and Connecting Around the World with Postcrossing

I traveled quite a lot, and everywhere I go, I tried to send myself a postcard - to write down my thoughts and also consider it a little souvenir of my trip.

Then I discovered the Postcrossing community last year and started swapping postcards with strangers.

Each postcard received is a little surprise and I get to know the other side of the world a little better (and of course adding more places to my travel bucket list).

So, what is Postcrossing?

Postcrossing is an online platform that connects people from different countries through postcards. The concept is simple – you sign up, request for a random address, send a postcard to that person and eventually receive a postcard in return from someone else in the world. Each postcard has a unique ID code that allows tracking its journey and the distance it traveled.

Is Postcrossing safe?

As you’ll be sharing your address with strangers from different parts of the world, it's normal that people have concerns about the safety of using Postcrossing. But so far, my experience is pretty positive. The address is only seen by the people who want to send you a postcard and so all is well.

If you're unsure, you can also use a nickname or have your postcard sent to a PO Box instead of your personal address.

My first year experience

I didn't get the chance to send a lot of postcard in 2023 - as I ended up working and traveling a lot towards the end of year. But there are many lovely postcard that I received throughout the year.

The most memorable experience - there was a Postcrosser that used to live in the city where I grew up with, and I was really amazed by how small the world actually is (or how connected we could be with one another)

The only downside is that I am receiving postcards mostly from Europe now, so hopefully I will receive a different part of the world later on.

This is my only postcard from postcrossing outside Europe:

Happy postcrossing! :)
